St Barnabas Community Project

St Barnabas is an Anglican Church, so our first objective is to worship God. That includes offering services of celebration and comfort such as baptisms, weddings and funerals.

Our second principal objective is to serve our host community. In order to serve our community, we created the Barnabas Community Project to support the underprivileged, sponsor wellbeing, and promote inter-ethnic mixing. We therefore seek to promote social cohesion in the Parish of Clarksfield and Greenacres. To this end, we supply a co-ordinated suite of ventures, clubs and activities (our own in conjunction with complementary agencies):

o   We run many projects ourselves.

o   A large number of complementary projects operate from within our venue, and are administered by other third-sector groups.

o   We are also the only venue in the whole of Oldham that we know of where the eastern-European and Pakistani-heritage Asian communities meet at the same time.

o   We assist other operators within the local third sector by finding funding and other support for their projects.

We run modest environmental projects in the immediate locality.

Listed below are the clubs, groups and societies that we run ourselves. For a comprehensive list of other groups we sponsor, please click here.

Youth Club

Our youth club aims to bring together local children from a wide array of backgrounds and ethnicities. We meet every Friday of the year in the Main Hall, between 6:00 pm and 7:30 pm for a time of fun, cooking, craftwork, sports, companionship, electronic games Ö the list is enormous, and changes every week! The Youth Club is run by staff seconded from the Oldham Play Action Group (OPAG), and open to children of Junior-School age.

Entrance costs 50p per child. Please click here to see some recent photographs.
